At Robot Comics we are actively looking for new comic titles to add to our inventory, either to offer for free or to sell for a small fee. In most cases, we simply act as a non-exclusive distributor who only asks the right to copy, distribute and transmit the work through various digital channels.
This means we are not even remotely interested in:
- Intellectual property: you are the sole owner of your property.
- Exclusivity: you are entitled to submit your property to any other publisher or distributor.
Currently, we are accepting two types of submissions: adaptations and proposals. Both submissions should take into account the following content policy.
Content policy
While mobile comics may be distributed and sold through various channels, our main source of downloads are Apple’s App Store and Google’s Android Market.
Both Apple and Google forbid content that displays:
- Illegal content
- Invasions of personal privacy or violations of the right of publicity
- Promotions of hate or incitement of violence
- Violations of intellectual property rights, including patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, or other proprietary right of any party
- Pornography, obscenity, nudity, or sexual activity
We understand that some of these restrictions are ambiguous. However, bear in mind that submissions that clearly violate them will not be distributed through the most important channels, which may affect considerably the number of downloads.
In general, we are more interested in finite stories, although we are open to any kind of comics. Surprise us.
Adaptations
If you are an established creator or publisher with a traditional comic or webcomic that might be adapted to a mobile version, who wants to give it away for free as promotion, or to sell it to generate another source of income, we offer:
- To create adapted version for hand-helds based on the original version. This includes, among other tasks, redoing the lettering and tweaking the art if needed.
- To publish and distribute the comic through digital stores such as Apple’s App Store and Google’s Android Market, covering all expenses.
- To actively promote the comic through various sites targeted to mobile users.
- To periodically inform you of every available statistic about the success of your comic.
- To translate the adapted versions to various languages.
If you are interested, please send an email to submissions@robotcomics.net letting us know about you and your titles. If you qualify, we will get back to you shortly.
Do not expect a reply if you do not qualify as an established creator. An established creator is someone who: either has been published by a known publisher or has a popular web presence and a wealthy archive of material.
Proposals
If you are a creator or group who wants to develop an original comic for mobile devices, we are more than interested to see your proposal. A proposal should contain:
- Various finished (colored and lettered if applicable) sequential screens of your comic, including the cover screen, as zipped PNG files.
- For iPhone/iPod touch/Android proposals send at least 15 480×320 screens.
- For Nintendo DSi proposals send at least 30 176×240 screens.
- If you are interested in submitting for other devices, please email contact@robotcomics.net for more information.
- A short paragraph describing what your comic is about.
- A brief biography of each creator.
Do not send:
- Scripts
- Complete story synopsis
- Any other material that was not solicited
If you send any of the above, your submission will be ignored. We will ask for these materials if the occasion arises. If you do not include exactly what we asked, do not expect a reply.
If you are new to mobile comics, we recommend checking our Tutorials section before creating your proposal, specifically the Creating comic screens for Android and iPhone mobiles tutorial. We will be adding a tutorial for Nintendo DSi soon.
Send your proposal by email to submissions@robotcomics.net. Do not enclose the zip file; host it in your server or in a free hosting service, and send us a link instead.
We try to answer to every submission. Sadly, we are not in fact robots, so we can miss a submission every once in a while. If you do not get a reply after a month, feel free to resubmit.
